Apart from the innumerable cultural proposals for entertainment, Corfu provides various suggestions for amusement and sports. There are many options for places to go from taverns, restaurants, live music spots, coffee places, bars and clubs. The island aspires to satisfy the desires of every visitor. The most popular meeting place in the city of Corfu is Liston, in the southern side of Spianada square, where the coffee places are always full of people.

Sports and activities

In Corfu visitors may choose from a variety of activities satisfying their needs for exercising.

Marine sports are within the prime preferences of visitors, providing the facilities for canoeing, marine skiing, marine parachuting, marine bicycling, banana riding, surfing and others.

The lovers of seawater will find several diving centers and diving schools with experienced instructors and suitable equipment for scuba diving or without equipment diving. Moreover, Corfu is one of the few places in Greece where scuba diving is allowed (diving with bottles of oxygen).

The Ionian sea, with rare sights and mild climate constitutes an attraction for yachtsmen from around the world. There are many marinas in the island of Corfu perfectly equipped. Those who have a license to operate a boat and do not have one, may rent a boat, provided that they have made reservations early enough.

Cricket is a sport that is only practiced in Corfu throughout Greece. It is derived from the English occupation of the island. From 1835 and after, suitable infrastructures have been developed, with cricket fields, teams and cricket matches. The cricket field in Spianada, in the historical centre city of Corfu is considered to be a traditional sight. Every year hosts cricket tournaments, official games and friendly games.

Another popular sport in the island is also Tennis. Corfu people were the first Greeks that knew about this sport (around the 19th century), and since then dealt systematically with it, which is revealed from the creation of the historical Tennis Group of Corfu. In summertime the island entertains tournaments of the world championship.

For the golf lovers, the island offers very beautiful golf course with 18 holes, in the meadow of Ropa (area of Ermonon), hardly 14 km from the city of Corfu.

Horse riding is another hobby brought from the English. It provides to the rider the chance to discover concealed places that can be approached only by a horse. There are many horse riding associations that address advanced riders but also beginners.

Naturally there are many possibilities for mountain climbing, walking and bicycling that offer very beautiful alternative ways for a visitor to meet the sights of the inland.

Another activity that could provide enjoyment is the Casino of Corfu. It is situated in the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel, in the Kanoni district, 4km from the city of Corfu and the airport. The hotel looks out on the sea, on the church of Panagia Vlahernon and the Pontikonisi as well as on the Chalkiopoulou lake, and thus the visitor gets a lovely panoramic view from there.

Inside the hotel, the Casino takes up a great deal of room, 900 m2 of which 620 m2 are only play rooms. In addition, there is plenty parking area for the Casino visitors. The Casino provides a variety of games (50 slot machines, 10 tables American roulette tables, 4 Blackjack tables and 1 Poker table). It is open daily from 20:00 up to 03:00. Visitors should be at least 23 years old and to enter they must have their identity card or a valid passport with them.

The Casino of Corfu constitutes the first postwar Casino in Greece that operated at first in 1962 in Achilleo by a German company. In 1988 the Casino was removed in Corfu Holiday Palace hotel. Today, the administration of the casino is actually the Tourist Development Company, the national real estate and property administration body.
